Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could assist the team access places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can look forward to learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, released on the upcoming Thursday.
