The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been rampant.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with musical numbers detailing their conflicts, and builds tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes recur frequently: Could Angel Dust break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented earlier this year. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're anticipating happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool origin tales, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people make a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
